Description
This depicts one of my many escapades as a young lad. When I was young, train spotting was the thing to do, we all did it, and I loved it. I still love steam trains! I remember me and my pal David being the only ones brave enough out of our gang 'The Duffle Coat Heroes' to be brave enough to sneak into an engine shed to get the numbers of two visiting locos. Look at the centre of my painting, can you see us? We have crept in through the big door behind us, slowly we walked up between the engines, notebooks and pencils in our hands.
When we got to the end we found the workmen! "OY!! what the bloody hell are you doing in here? If we catch you we will give you a damn good hiding!"
I remember the flight! I wasn't very fast, my heart pounding, thoughts of my bare bum being thrashed with a belt filled my head! My mate stopped, a true friend, and took my hand, we ran like the wind! He was so fast, my poor legs could only just manage to keep up! All I could think as I ran was ....don't tumble, don't tumble!
We didn't....phew!
We were heroes....Duffle Coat Heroes! And our status was forever thus.
